Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

We will start with a 15-20 minute free phone consultation.  This will give me a better sense of what you want to work on and will give you a better sense of my approach.  If we think we’re a good fit, we can set up our first session together.

What is the cost per session?

My standard rate is $225 for both adults and adolescents.  I have several slots designated for sliding scale, so please inquire for availability.  For a list of low-cost therapy centers, please see the Resources page.

How long are sessions?

Standard individual sessions are 50 minutes.  If we need to meet for more time than that, the charge will be pro-rated accordingly.

How often do we meet?

Therapy is most effective when we start meeting at least once a week for 3-4 months.  If at some point once a week is no longer needed, then we can discuss moving to every other week or even once a month for a check in.

Do you take insurance?

No, I do not take insurance.  I am an out-of-network provider and will send you a superbill every month so you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.  Please check with your insurance company to find out more details about reimbursement.  If this process is new to you or you would like a refresher, please check the Resources page for a great article on out-of-network reimbursement.

Are you doing sessions online or in person?

I am doing both in-person and telehealth sessions.

How does telehealth work?

Telehealth sessions are held via Simple Practice, a HIPAA-compliant platform.  Telehealth sessions are still available to in-person clients who are unable to come into the office for some reason.  I may also offer telehealth sessions to clients when I am out of town but still conducting sessions.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please let me know 24 hours before your session if you need to cancel; otherwise I will charge you for the full session fee.

How will I know if therapy is helping?

I will check in with you regularly about how therapy is going and what kind of impact you are seeing in your life.  If therapy with me isn’t working for you, I’ll give you a list of therapists who I think would be a good fit and help you brainstorm other ways to get the right support.
